Excerpt from Superior Seeds, 1943: Farm and Garden Supplies
Beans are tender and should not be planted until the soil is well warmed. Sowing too early will often result in a poor stand and uneven ripening. Sow the seed to 2 inches deep in rows not less than 18 inches apart and firm the soil to assist germination. Allow the plants to stand 4 to 10 inches apart in the row according to variety.
